Elephants are ready and waiting. You can help bring them home to sanctuary with "Fences for Freedom."
The only thing that can bring sanctuary to elephants in South America is fencing and you. Fences are their ticket to sanctuary. Fences create freedom for them with a new life of respect, trust, friendship and dignity. The freedom that elephants experience at sanctuary is only possible because of permanent fencing that allows them to wander unaccompanied. They can venture wherever they choose, giving them the autonomy that helps them to figure out who they are. They realize, for the first time, that their new life is all about them.
In October we welcomed our first two residents, Maia and Guida, to Elephant Sanctuary Brazil. They were ex-circus elephants who spent the past 5 years chained in cruel captivity, because there was no place to care for them. These two elephants are the perfect example of what sanctuary can do- and in their case, in just 24 hours.
While Maia had been extremely dominant over Guida, even knocking her down in the past, once at sanctuary their relationship changed literally overnight. They are now incredibly affectionate and caring towards each other, and Guida even decided she would like to be in charge. Their trust in one another and the new humans in their life continues to grow each day. This growth and security is just part of the life we want to provide for many captive elephants throughout South America; but we need your help now.
There are numerous African, Asian, male and female elephants waiting for their home at sancutary. While we are not yet able to publicly disclose the specifics, each elephant carries their own story of trauma and neglect; and for every elephant in South America we are their only hope. They deserve the chance to discover what it means to have freedom of choice, respect and space to explore. They deserve to feel the same joy and experience the life altering changes that Maia and Guida have experienced, made possible only because of donations from people like you.
Our first enclosed natural area is for female Asian elephants, aand this is where Maia and Guida now reside. This area is continuing to expand and will fill up fast; but these elephants are not the only ones in need of sanctuary. In order to be able to accept African elephants and males of either species, we need to begin construction of additional areas. The life we all want for them, the life they need, is up to us.
This is how you can help give them a life of sanctuary:
- Every gift of $21 builds another foot of elephant fence.
- Our fundraising goal is $100,000.
- Each $25,000 raised will purchase a full truckload of steel pipe, enough to build almost 2 miles of elephant fence.
- Four truckloads of steel will enclose 3 smaller elephant yards and a new elephant care center. This will enable us to begin rescuing other species of elephants while we continue to expand the space available to them.
Every Elephant Matters! Please give generously. Thank you
