This year, GlobeMed at Penn is supporting the development of a youth center on the premises of our partner organization, the Lwala Community Alliance, in Lwala, Kenya. The space, which has already been constructed but not yet furnished, will provide a safe space for out-of-school youths and in-school youths to use during their downtime and breaks. The estimated 5,000 beneficiaries will receive computer training and access to relevant health information. Specifically, our chapter will be fundraising for e-readers for the center through a partnership with the LCA and World Reader. These e-readers will be stocked with hundreds of locally-sourced books to provide the recipients with culturally relevant material. Overall, this project will help to further the LCA's vision of increasing wellbeing in Lwala and beyond through a holistic approach to healthcare.
