BENEFITING: Cambodian Childrens Fund
Visionary people face the same problems everyone else faces; but rather than get paralyzed by their problems, visionaries immediately commit themselves to finding a solution.
Everything started in 2009 when I read a Yoga Magazine that featured a remarkable story of courage, vision and compassion. This was the story of one man who traded a life of luxury and fame for the chance to make a difference in the lives of hundreds and hundreds of children.
Scott Neeson was a Hollywood mogul responsible for the success of movies such as Titanic, and Brave Heart to name a few. He was the President of 20th Century Fox International, and later he became the President of Sony Entertainment International. During his job transition from Fox to Sony, he decided to take a trip to Asia. Little did he know that the trip would take an unexpected turn which would for ever change the course of his life. Children scavengers in Cambodia hit a cord in Scott’s heart and he was forced to face tough choices: he would either look away as if he never witnessed the desperation, unbearable poverty, and suffering those children had to experience regularly or, he would create solutions to improve the lives and conditions of the children he encountered in Cambodia. He chose the latter, and by so doing, he met his true calling.
Scott’s story and work in Cambodia stuck with me from the moment I learned about it. How many times do we meet, or learn about someone who has such strength of character and courage to take tremendous risks in pursuit of what is right and true? We may think that people like Scott are either saints or insane! To me he does not seem to be either, rather he is a man of conviction, vision and purpose.
In November 2011, I traveled to Ubud, Bali. There, Scott’s story strongly reemerged in my mind. Bali turned out to be a very special place where I met incredible, and creative people doing wonderful things to help children in need. The magnitude of the issues I witnessed in Bali however, could not even compare to what Scott and his team face in Cambodia every day. Yet, what I saw in Bali deeply inspired me, and I was filled with a sense of possibility. It was then when I decided to do what ever I could to help Scott’s organization, the Cambodian Children’s Fund.
One of the greatest things about the Cambodian Children’s Fund is how the organization is structured. Through trial and error Scott became to understand that in order to successfully help a child he would also have to create programs that supported the child’s family, as well as the community where the child lived. Thanks to this understanding and vision, Scott established a support system that, since the organization's inception in 2004, has generated a succession of successful, and inspiring stories filled with Hope for a better future. The Cambodian Children’s Fund offers a variety of educational programs and training, medical assistance, and daycare to name some, and all is free of charge to the community. Following the same vision, The Cambodian Children’s Fund is creating special programs to protect Cambodian children, one of the most vulnerable children in the world to sex trafficking, slavery, and human trafficking.
As tough as things may seem at times, I strongly believe we live in an incredible period in history where we can truly do amazing things for ourselves as well as for others without exhausting our financial resources. It is with the power of creativity, and the power of becoming One as a community that we can bring transformation into this world, easing the load of those who have taken a stand for the betterment of human conditions.
The concept of Five Thousand Visionaries for Hope is based on a simple premise, that is: To create Amazing things, with just a little. By Investing just a little - $10 - You have the power to create Amazing things such as The Cambodian Children’s Fund Protection Program. Five Thousand visionaries Investing $10 dollars each is something that together as One community can definitively do! We have the power to strengthen children's lives, we have the power to give Hope. All we have to do is to start today..........
