Goal Keeper Michael Storton's Soccer Injury
Organized by: Mike Ankener
GOAL KEEPER MICHAEL STORTON'S SOCCER INJURY crowdfund officially ends 4/1/2016
April 01, 2016
EVENT DATE Apr 01, 2016
My name is Mike Ankener, and I am a parent of a soccer player on the “Lawrenceville (New Jersey) United” travel soccer team. My son has been playing on this team for seven years, since he was 10 years old – but this isn’t about him, it’s about Michael Storton, our team’s goal keeper. Yesterday (3/13/2016), during our game at Hopewell High School, Michael sustained a horrible injury as a result of a violent collision with an opponent towards the end of the game. Michael appeared to have fallen on his back, as the team scored their goal – But what we didn’t know, was that an opposing player made contact with Michael in the face, and Michael sustained a broken upper jaw and had 12+ teeth either knocked out or displaced. Our information as to the full scope of his injury is spotty at the moment, but we know he underwent surgery during the night. As parents, we understand the risks associated with contact sports, but this injury is unlike anything any of us has ever seen. To quote our coach, “While soccer can be a very physical game, this type of collision and resulting injury exceeds anything I have personally witnessed in my 35+ years as a player and coach.” We are starting this fund to help Michael’s family offset any out of pocket expenses associated with his injury. We know this is slight when compared to the severity of the injury, and it certainly can’t un-do Michael’s injury the way we all wish it could - But it’s a beginning, and a way we can come together as a team of parents as Michael recovers. I will post updates as information becomes available. All funds will be passed by me (the fund organizer) directly to Michael's family.
