Please help send Alissa Orlando - my esteemed colleague at MFI Connect and one of the most promising microfinanciers I know - to the Global Microcredit Summit!

Alissa, a student at Georgetown University, has been working with me at MFI Connect, the student microfiannce network I co-founded three years ago, in order to help bring students to the Global Microcredit Summit this November. She has put in an incredible amount of time, energy, creativity, and will power to organize MFI Connect's 2011 student delegation, but she has not been able to find the funds she needs to go.

Why is the MFI Connect student delegation important?
The delegation engages students and builds next generation microfinance leaders through exclusive MFI Connect student meetings with leading microfinance innovators, the opportunity for students to showcase their work to over 2,000 practitioners at the MFI Connect booth, and the opportunity to meet an international community of student leaders like themselves. Last year, MFI Connect brought 50 students from 9 countries and 34 schools to Nairobi, Kenya for the Africa and Middle East Summit, where they met with Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus (Grameen Bank), Sir Fazel Abed (BRAC), and Ingrid Monroe (Jamii Bora). This year with Alissa's help, we have officially partnered with the Summit, over 100 students have joined the MFI Connect delegation, and we have a more robust and diverse program. To emphasize the enormous value Alissa is helping to build for the industry and students, Professor Yunus, Sam Daley-Harris (the Director of the Summit), and Ingrid Monroe have written a letter of endorsement to encourage universities and individuals to support students in attending the Summit.

Why is it important that Alissa attends the Summit?
Not only because she has helped organize it and we desperately need her leadership, organization, and positive attitude at the event, but also because she herself would learn and grow from the experience. Alissa is poised to be one of the next generation leaders MFI Connect aims to nurture. She has already proven herself on our team and is actively involved in leading a number of incredible programs in DC, including a women's leadership network at Georgetown. Attending the Summit would allow her to further develop her leadership skills on the MFI Connect team, network with microfinance professionals for future job opportunities, and deepen her understanding of microfinance.

How can you help her?
Please make a donation. She needs a total of $1,000 to afford the trip. With your help she can do it. Every penny counts.
