BENEFITING: KIDS OF LOVE FOUNDATION INC
EVENT DATE: Sep 27, 2014
Yes, it is true! I have answered the call along with Kids of Love and am going bald again in support of Childhood Cancer Awareness. Why? I am doing this not only to stand in solidarity with kids fighting cancer, but more importantly to raise money to send cancer kids to camp. It cost approximately $2500.00 per child for one week. American Cancer Society dropped this program from their mission, and our goal is to continue to send all 350 children with cancer from Florida to Boggy Creek, a special camp designed to meet their needs. The total cost we need to raise is approximately $850,000.
Since childhood cancers are the # 1 disease killer of US kids, taking more kids every year than every other disease combined, and worldwide nearly 100,000 children die annually, we need to do something. Although children living in the US live in the richest nation, with the highest standard of living, we still have to relay on lemonade and cookies sales, marathons and supporters of childhood cancer shaving their heads to raise money and bring awareness for the number 1 killer of our children. In the last 20 years, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved only two pediatric cancer drugs. Childhood Cancer research is grossly underfunded with only 4% of US Federal Funding going for childhood cancer research.
The hard cold truth is that every 43 minutes a child in the US is diagnosed with cancer, and every day approximately 7 children die from cancer.
This may be one of the last great experiences that these children have. I beg you not to let this request to go un-answered. So, I challenge you to “Stand Up to Cancer” and join us in our mission to send these children to camp and help raise awareness for Childhood Cancer. Please consider making a donation of $1000, $500, $250, $100, $50 or $25 to help us reach our goal in sending these children with cancer to camp.
Children can’t fight cancer alone...we need your support too!
