God Loves You Cross
Organized by: Henry Wiebe
I believe that people find inspiration from crosses and I saw an opportunity to bring the symbol of the cross out of the church and into the marketplace, a place where the people are. The location I chose was alongside the highway where thousands of cars travel on a regular basis. I thought, this is where the people are. In 2001 I put up the cross with the words "God loves you" along the QEW in Vineland to give passersby hope whether they are Christian or not. I think it's serving a purpose to let people know someone cares about them. I want to tell people that if they feel that no one loves them, there's God that loves them. I will never know what impact the cross has had on the thousands who have passed by, but I believe it has been a sign of hope to those who need it. The cost of the cross was $25 000. To light the cross through the night costs $112 a month. I am looking for donations to help light the cross as well as provide the maintenance needed for it to continue to glow.
