Please read and help! ZWONAKA NEMALILI·SUNDAY, APRIL 24, 201670 Reads It is with a heavy heart full of sorrow and grieve that I write this letter to appeal to the general public for their generous assistance and donations either in cash or in kind to help with the burial arrangement of one o the most kind-hearted and beloved woman I have ever known.
The news of the death of Gogo Nano Zuma came as an utter shock when I receive a call to tell of her sudden passing. I was informed that she just collapsed and died on the street while walking. Gogo Nano Zuma was 68 years old. She was born on September 14, 1949. She lived in a small village called Kwa-pata just outside Petermaritzburg in Kwazulu Natal.
She is survived by a sister and relatives who are all incapable of raising funds for the burial as they are all unemployed and rely on grants from the government. Her only daughter (Thokozani Zuma) went missing over 20 years ago after she left home to go look for a job in Johannesburg. She never made it back home and no one has seen or heard from her since then.
My greatest memory of Gogo Nano Zuma was when I went to Durban to start school in UKzN, Pietermaritzburg campus and had nowhere to stay as I was unable to secure accommodation in the university’s residence. I was wondering about the street when she approached me and asked what the problem was. I explained my predicament to her and she immediately offered for me to stay in her house. I stayed with her for a full week and she never asked of anything from me. She loved me like her own child. So many years on, she still calls me on the phone every week to check on my well-being.
I owe it to her to ensure she gets a decent burial. I cannot raise the funds alone to pay the funeral home, to buy a coffin and to pay for a plot in the burial ground. I made efforts to ask for help from the people who knew her but there’s nothing forth coming from them. The total amount needed is approximately R18000. Donations of any kind would be highly appreciated.
It is over a week now that she died and every day that goes by adds to the amount required for keeping the corpse in the mortuary. Please and please nothing is too small. May God bless everyone abundantly. For information on where and how to donate, please contact Ms. Zwonaka Deborah Nemalili on +27764079764 or email: email@example.com.
