THE STORY:

Once again I have signed up to participate in this year’s Crohns and Colitis Foundation of America’s (CCFA) Team Challenge and will be training for the 2014 Napa to Sonoma Half Marathon which takes place on Sunday July 20. The purpose of this event is to raise funds and awareness for research leading to improved treatment and ultimately a cure for Crohns and UC.

Over the next 16 weeks I will be training and raising funds with Team Long Island in hopes of finding a cure for these diseases from which over 1.4 million Americans suffer. I have Crohns and while I have been fortunate to have not experienced the most severe of symptoms and effects of the illness, I know too well that its course can change without warning.

CCFA is the largest organization dedicated to curing IBD and has funded more than 1100 grants for research programs. The foundation invests its funding wisely and has brought together the highest caliber of researchers in the world. The funds raised through Team Challenge directly benefit CCFA to support its mission to find a cure and to improve the quality of life of children and adults affected by the disease…not only for the patients, but their family support system. More than 80 cents of every dollar donated to CCFA goes to mission critical programs.
