Goldence Ltd Non Profit Equine Rescue
Organized by: Val Knotts
I have recently started a non profit equine rescue in the state of Indiana, and I am currently looking for donations to help get the operations off the ground. This rescue was inspired by my horse Golden. Golden is a thoroughbred who spent her entire life racing, earning thousands of dollars for her owners. When she was 12 years old and no longer able to keep up with the younger horses, her owners decided to retire her from racing. At this point in a horses career they are sold for a very small amount of money since they only have training in one discipline. Buyers may be private parties who have intentions of giving the horse a second career and proper training. But most frequently these horses end up at an auction where they are sold to 'kill buyers' for a price that amounts to nothing (ie some people's weekly Starbucks purchases). These 'kill buyers' then turn around and resell these horses to companies across the US border to turn a profit. Once these horses are sold to these companies they are processed as a meat source for these countries. The thought of this process happening to my horse, Golden, is unthinkable and yet so many horses endure this fate. My intention with this rescue is to specifically target retired race horses and give them a forever home. These horses have spent their entire life working, some making more money then their owners ever could in a lifetime, and they deserve a chance to live out their remaining years. In starting the journey to establish an equine rescue, many general operating expenses are incurred. Most importantly the cost of transporting these animals back to a safe environment. With this initial fund I plan to purchase a large trailer that has the capability to transport 2+ horses at a time. Any funding left over will go toward the purchase of a horse(s), feed, and vet expenses. As a side note, any rescued horse will remain in the care of the organization. No horse will be adopted out nor will these animals be used to make any type of profit. Any contribution is greatly appreciated! Thank you for your help in making my dream of rescuing horses a reality! PS) Golden is safe and sound with me at the farm where she and I go on the occasional ride. Some of her favorite things to do are going on long strolls in the very green pastures, receiving treats (especially carrots), and get brushed down.
