The Golden Gate Relay is a 200 mile relay race that has run from Calistoga to Santa Cruz every May for the last 18 years. Since the race's beginning, it has been closely affiliated with Organs R Us, a non-profit that supports organ donation by registering donors, supporting families of organ recipients, as well as raising awareness for the sheer number of people living in dire need of a donor organ. As of 1995, the year of the Relay's inception, of the 110,000 Americans waiting for organs, 20 died each day before a donor was found.
Stanford has been a significant presence in the Relay for the last few years, with the Lady Trees winning the women's division in 2012, after finishing the race in under 24 hours. We hope to extend our winning streak to two years while helping the Relay support the cause of organ donation!
