iMentor partners with high schools in low-income communities, where a majority of students served will be first-generation college graduates. The program takes an all-school approach matching every student with a committed college-educated mentor. We strive to compliment their existing support system and help guide that young person on their journey to a college or other secondary school.
I have volunteered with iMentor for the past five years, and I am currently with my 2nd mentee. Gulshoda and I met her sophomore year at the Brooklyn International High School. She graduated high school two years ago with honors, and is currently a college sophomore concentrating in biology. He perseverance, drive and integrity are an inspiration to me. More so today than ever before, it is important to let our youth know that their communities are here for them, to help them achieve their ambitions. It starts with education!
The iMentor Challenge is a community-driven crowdfunding campaign powered by mentors, friends, families and colleagues. iMentor is looking to raise $300,000 this year so we can impact the lives of 300 more students & bring iMentor to a new school in New York City.
Here is what your support can do for New York City’s students:
- $25 allows a mentee to attend a year of iMentor events
- $100 supplies a mentee with a year's access to monthly career and college preparation events
- $500 provides a college application event for an entire Junior class
- $1,000 supports the mentorship of one student as they work one-on-one with their mentor toward academic and personal success
