BENEFITING: GOLF FIGHTS CANCER
ORGANIZER: GOLF FIGHTS CANCER
EVENT: 2015 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 20, 2015
There are so many reasons that I could make not to run the Boston Marathon. But after attending, the Golf Fights Cancer Golf Tournament in October, I realized that all my reasons were just bad excuses and that I actually have 2 amazing reasons to run the 2015 Boston Marathon-to honor the lives of my mother and mother-in-law.
My first personal experience with cancer was meeting my future mother-in-law, Rejane Stock, as she was dying from Colon cancer. Throughout her 4-year battle with cancer, Rejane freely shared her time, her laughter and loving spirit. Even at the end, she had a way of making everyone feel special. Rejane is dearly missed but her love of life lives on in her 11 children, 21 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
In 2012, we got the devastating news that my mother, Barbara Guild, had Cholangiocarcinoma (Bile Duct Cancer) and had only weeks to live. As this is a rare form of cancer, there are currently few effective treatment options available. In light of this news, Barbara remained strong and her faith in God was unshaken. The loss of my mother to cancer was devestating and I miss her every single day. My siblings and I were blessed to have such an amazing person guide us through life.
Each day I am reminded of these special women when I hear my children laughing and enjoying life, but I am saddened to know that cancer has cheated them out of having 2 amazing grandmothers in their lives.
To honor these 2 extraordinary women is the reason why that I am choosing to run the 2015 Boston Marathon with the GFC Team. With your help, I will reach my goal of raising $10,000 for Golf Fights Cancer so they can continue to make targeted donations for equipment, and services that make an immediate and positive impact on treatment and the experience for both the patients and families. Thank you for your generosity and support.
