BENEFITING: GOLF FIGHTS CANCER
ORGANIZER: GOLF FIGHTS CANCER
EVENT: 2015 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 20, 2015
When I was looking for photos to post on this webpage, I was flooded with memories of two important people in my life whose lives were lost to cancer: my mother and my father-in-law.
More than ten years ago, two of my great friends started Golf Fights Cancer, http://golffightscancer.org, a unique non-profit organization that makes targeted donations for equipment, services, and/or amenities that make an immediate positive impact on the treatment and the experience for both patients and their families. Since its inception, GFC has raised over $3 million, and almost every dollar has gone directly to people who need it.
This year, I have been given the opportunity to take my support of this amazing organization one-step further, by running (and finishing) the 2015 Boston Marathon for GFC. As I look at the faces in these photos, I see the challenges my mother and my father-in-law faced as they fought for their lives against cancer. I also saw the challenges their grandchildren and loved ones faced with the loss of these two people.
While the thought of training for and running 26.2 miles is sometimes daunting, it is nothing compared to what cancer patients everywhere are subjected to every single day. This is a challenge that I gladly accept on behalf of Golf Fights Cancer, and I thank you for supporting the fight against this terrible disease.
