BENEFITING: GOLF FIGHTS CANCER
ORGANIZER: GOLF FIGHTS CANCER
EVENT: 2016 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 18, 2016
I am incredibly honored to be a part of this great group of individuals through Golf Fights Cancer. I will run in memory of my daughter, Ellie who lost her battle to cancer Christmas morning 2011 at the age of 11. At the time of Ellie’s diagnosis with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) in May 2010, there was no standard treatment and the medical protocol had not changed in almost 30 years. Since that time, as a result of private funding a number of recent advances in the understanding of the biology of DIPGs have recently occurred and we are now making real progress. These advances are a direct result of funds raised by events such as this and gifted to Ellie’s medical and research team at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
Cancer is a time filled with vulnerability, fear and sadness at the same time a need to be strong, positive and hopeful. Nick and I collect our courage everyday to move forward. We can hear Ellie’s laugh, see Ellie’s smile, sense Ellie’s touch and feel Ellie’s spirit.
Your efforts and support bring hope that future families will be spared from having to endure the pain of losing a child.
My untrained and very sore legs will join this great team to participate in the 2016 Boston Marathon. I've made a personal commitment to run and raise $20,000.00 so I hope you can help me achieve this significant goal.
