For as long as I could remember my abuelito Beto always referred to me as his "pájarita" which means little bird. If you have ever had the pleasure of knowing or meeting my abuelito you know that he may not always remember your name, but he will always recall you by the new nickname that he gives you (it tends to always be after animals or fruit haha). It is one of the many sweet and dear ways he shows his affection. He might've called me this because of how petite I was compared to all my siblings, or the way I would nibble on my food and never finish it, or simply just because it was a "cute" name. Growing up, I have routinely migrated from Seattle to Nicaragua to serve natives of my Papa's homeland and spend quality time with my abuelito- sitting outside his little store hearing about all the things he's accomplished in his life. I have learned that over the years, that I not only have a passion for reaching the people in Nicaragua, but also for leading my "flock" of family, friends, and even strangers to experience the type of service we do in these communities. I like to believe that even before Beto knew the type of person I would become, he knew that I would be his little, "pajarita," to show others the beauty of Nicaragua and encourage them to get involved.
As my abuelito gets older, his days are becoming numbered and my time with him is becoming even more valuable. He was Corner of Love's first cheerleader since day one, and I am excited to show him how much the young people of this generation care for this country and assure him that we will carry on his legacy of making a difference.
Whether you've served with us before, desire to in the future, or never have-I ask, primarily for your prayers that my team would be able to reach these sick, and very poor families and secondly, support my team financially so that we can make these mobile clinics possible.
Be apart of my "flock" and witness all the good that God will do through these young adults serving with me! It is going to be an unforgettable experience.
