Gooch family home fund
Organized by: Carla Gooch
We have 4 days before we are literally on the street. Please take a few minutes to read our story. Thanks Hi, my name is Carla Gooch, I'm the mother of 5 amazing, resilient children. 3 of my children are disabled. My oldest child has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder with suicidal ideation. My twins are also disabled. The older one has been diagnosed with a high functioning form of autism. The younger twin has cerebral palsy, is intellectually delayed and has a seizure disorder. My youngest two are both girls ages 13 and 14. Two years ago we left our home because of domestic violence. Unfortunately, I didn't realize domestic violence shelters rarely let males over the age of 12 yrs in. For the last year and 1/2 we have been living in our car because even homeless shelters would require my disabled sons to stay with a group of grown men we didn't know. While my girls and I stayed somewhere else. Recently our car broke down and I was unable to repair it. We ended up having to sell it and use the money for a motel room. I work where and when I can to pay for a room. My availability for work is limited because of my sons disabilities. I have been told recently that legally the motel can no longer rent us just one room. I barely make enough to cover one room, plus food, I'll never be able to cover 2 rooms. I have applied for public housing and was told it's first come first serve where I live. We are at least 6 months down the list. I've called every agency and shelter within 100 plus miles of us and was able to get the money for one more week at the Motel 6 here. I've been told to call children's services. However, I don't see how separating my family will help anything. We love each other and don't want to be separated. If you could find it in your heart to help us in any way, whether with money, food, housing, or advice on where I could go next it would be truly appreciated. Thank you God bless.
