Our Story

The Good Samaritan Health Center of Gwinnett

The Good Samaritan Health Center of Gwinnett is a non-profit medical clinic whose mission is to demonstrate the love of Christ by providing low-cost primary care, dental care, and disease management services for uninsured residents of the north metro Atlanta area. We serve with a secondary mission to provide a venue for matriculating future medical professionals to advance their educational goals while serving the poor of our community. Our Goals are to provide quality low cost primary healthcare services to the uninsured and decrease the demand of the uninsured for non-emergent medical services on the local hospital emergency rooms.

On July 25, 2016, we moved to a larger facility in Norcross in order to expand capacity and offer new services such as the dental clinic. We completed the year providing 17,535 patient encounters at an estimated value of $5,000,000. Since January of this year, Good Sam Gwinnett has experienced 8,500 patient encounters. We expect to deliver 25,600 patient encounters by the end of this calendar year, a 45% increase in utilization in comparison to 2016.

On August 25, 2017, Good Sam Gwinnett announced a merger with Bridge Atlanta Medical Center combining two out of the three safety net clinics in Gwinnett County. Recognizing a high percentage of uninsured residents and rise in number of households living in poverty in the County, the non-profit healthcare clinics agreed to combine their efforts to better and more efficiently serve the poor and uninsured. Bridge Atlanta Medical Center will be renamed Good Samaritan Health Center of East Gwinnett (GSHCEG) and the combined clinics will offer primary care, specialty medicine, general dentistry, in-house medication dispensary, and counseling. With nearly 14% of Gwinnett residents living below the Federal Poverty Level, 24% without health insurance, and 50% without dental insurance, the merger of these charity clinics is a blessing to Gwinnett.

One in five Georgians live in a primary care health professional shortage area; for that reason, Good Sam Gwinnett mainly serves, but is not limited to, an eight county region (Gwinnett, DeKalb, Fulton, Forsyth, Hall, Newton, Rockdale, and Walton). Our patient-base is predominantly women (67%), Latino (69%), about 39 years old (age range: <1>
