The Good Shepherd Humane Society is a no-kill animal shelter in Carroll County, Arkansas, with a mission to care for stray, abandoned and unwanted dogs and cats, placing as many as possible into loving homes, and to promote shelter adoptions and public education on the duties of responsible pet ownership and humane treatment for all animals.
We are located in an impoverished county of Arkansas where the median income is a little over $36,000 with a per capita income of only a bit over $20,000. There is a substantial segment of our population who struggle to find affordable veterinary services. The Good Shepherd also helps reduce pet overpopulation by promoting and providing low-cost spay/neuter programs and rabies clinics in Carroll County. We also work in conjunction with a variety of different towns and cities within Carroll County as a shelter for lost or unclaimed animals in order to avoid euthanasia.
In 2015, we adopted out 558 animals that would have otherwise been euthanized! Donors in our community take joy knowing they are literally saving the lives of many hundreds of animals each year.
So far in 2016, we have made wonderful changes to the shelter. As a former kill shelter, we want to improve upon our facilities, and continue the forward momentum of onward and upward, and with the help of this challenge, we hope to be one of the recipients of the top five bonus prizes--including a top prize of $50,000.
YOU can get us there and with your support we will:
- Build new kennels for our dogs! As former kill shelter our kennels were not originally set-up for the care and maintenance a no-kill shelter seeks to provide our dogs. This dream will can come true if we get the top prize!
- Ensure that our regular operations are strong. This means: spay/neuter, vaccinations, and worming/flea/tick treatment for every adoptable animal; and a dedicated staff that cares for the animals 365 days a year; and a clean and beautiful facility for our animals and our visitors.
- Continue to offer low-cost spay/neuter and rabies clinics for cats and dogs in Carroll County.
With your help and donations, we can make the world a safe, loving, and healthy place for abandoned, unwanted, and homeless dogs and cats of Carroll County. We are up against many organizations, some of which are much larger than GSHS. With your support, we can win this thing—and that would mean a $50,000 bonus prize for GSHS and new kennels for the dogs at our no-kill shelter! So donate, spread the word, and let’s put the Good Shepherd Humane Society on the nation's radar!
