Good Samaritan Medical and Dental Ministry
Organized by: Holly Nguyen
Hey everyone! My name is Holly Nguyen and I am fundraising for the Good Samaritan Medical and Dental Ministry(GSMDM). Last year, I was blessed with the amazing opportunity to be a part of the 2015 team where we provided care for the underprivileged people of Cao Bang, Vietnam. GSMDM is an incredible non-profit organization that travels to the most rural areas of Vietnam with a medical, dental, optometry, lab, surgical, history, reception and pharmacy team to provide the best and most care we can for the people of Vietnam. They've also added a construction team which built a preschool for the community last year.
Joining the team last year, I didn't know exactly what to expect. Not long after meeting the team, I knew God had a purpose for each and every single one of us. Whether it be helping out medically or spiritually, we were there to serve. I can say with a steady heart, the mission was the hardest thing I've ever experienced but it was life changing, eye-opening, and so so so worth the it. Pushed beyond borders out of my comfort zone and physically drained every day, but there was never a second that I regretted getting off that plane in Ha Noi, Vietnam. One of our purposes for the mission is "changing lives one at a time". I am not sure if I changed a life while I was over there, but I can selfishly say that if one life was changed it was definitely mine. Every day we woke up early, drove sometimes 2 hours to a school where we held the clinic and every day we drove to the school, there were always people waiting for us already. It was overwhelmingly bittersweet. Most people traveled many distances to be seen which we take for granted in the U.S. having so many doctors to pick from. There are so many stories to tell about my trip last summer, some that have made my heart heavy, but all in all after the mission was complete, I knew I needed to serve. I knew I had to come back again to my people and I knew that I needed to do more this time.
I am so excited to see what God has in stored for me and my team this year. I am especially ecstatic to see how God works within me, within my team, and within the people of Vietnam. I strongly believe that "because God has given so abundantly to me, and because I want to please Him, I am motivated to give cheerfully and generously to His work". Please help me and my team by keeping us in your thoughts and prayers. If able, I humbly ask for your financial support in this as well. My team and I need to fundraise a total of $121,000 to make this mission possible. Your donations can cover the cost of some of these surgeries-- cataracts, cleft lips, neck mass removal, and congenital heart defects in children. Just by donating, you could make it possible to save someone's life. I would love and appreciate your support in making this mission trip possible and successful so that we could bring healing to the people of Vietnam. Thank you!
