BENEFITING: 3 LITTLE BIRDS 4 LIFE
One day while shaving I noticed a lump. The next day my wife scheduled an appointment with my doctor. After a few doctors, procedures and tests they showed some follicular cells but really was inconclusive. They scheduled surgery November 2012 to do a partial thyroidectomy. The cancer was the size of a tangerine and came back follicular variant papillary thyroid carcinoma. Immediately after surgery I was having chest pains. I ended up in progressive care for the next six days they decided I had Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy (Broken Heart Syndrome). I recovered well after surgery but had to have follow-up visits for the heart. Fortunately there was no heart damage and my heart will recover. They scheduled my next surgery for the end of March 2013 that one went very well with no complications. They found more cancer on the other side it was considerably smaller. Right now our next step seeing the endocrinologist and she is going to schedule the radiation in St. Louis. I have to talented and wonderful children and a beautiful wife. These bad times only make the good times that much sweeter.
