EVENT: 2013 GO! For A Cause
EVENT DATE: Apr 07, 2013
Most of you know my story and know how important the GO! St. Louis weekend is to my journey. Over the course of the last 31/2 years I have lost about 120 pounds. Running has become my main form of exercise and the GO! weekend has been a milestone weekend for me each of the last 4 years. In 2009, I came to see Katie and Abbey in the Read, Right and Run marathon and at 342+ pounds was hardly able to walk from our parking spot to the race. In 2010, I ran my first 5k. In 2011, I completed my first half marathon. Last year, in 2012, I ran every step of the half marathon. These have all been proud milestones in my journey to fitness.
This last year has been less about big weight loss and huge fitness milestones and more about learning to live as fit people do. There have been a lot of successes, running races with my girls, finding new enjoyable exercise, and learning a lot about myself. There have been a lot of setbacks as well, and I've been learning that losing the weight was the easy part and learning to LIVE this way every day and change long held mindsets is way harder.
This year, I am bit disappointed that I was unable to reach the next GO! milestone of running the full marathon. Due to illnesses and injuries and losing my way for a while, the training season has been largely unsuccessful and frustrating. But as Katie, my Girl on the Run and huge support says, all races have their own victory. My victory this year will be getting out there, completing the race and raising money for this important cause. I appreciate your help.
