Let me start by saying I'm not one for making New Year's Resolutions. It just so happened that a friend of mine suggested that a group of us get together and run a half marathon together in May. Being that I haven't ran since required to do so in high school xx years ago, my initial response was, "Is she serious?".
After some muddling over the situation I decided to go full fledge with it and sign up for the Go! St. Louis half marathon in April and it would serve as a dual purpose: fulfilling the goal of completing a half marathon as well as helping kids from sitting in front of the TV or PC all day, every day. I mean, remember when we'd play outside ALL DAY during the summer?!?!? Most kids now are lucky if they get out one day and play (dang, makes me sound old).
ANYWAY......Please help in this worthwhile cause and donate what you can today and show support to the kids of St. Louis as well as to me completing something I never thought I'd do!
Also, look at my training progress here:
Below is more information about the Team for Kids program, I'd love it if you'd join me on April 15th!

GO! St. Louis Team for Kids is the official charity team for GO! St. Louis. This exciting new team will help you train for a race at the 2012 GO! St. Louis Marathon & Family Fitness Weekend®, while raising funds to help us in our mission to fight the raising rate of youth obesity.
We created this new team out of an increased interest in expanding our local youth fitness initiatives at a time of crisis for many young children, who continue to fight a lack of physical exercise and ultimately an obesity problem than can lead to a lifetime of health issues. We have expanded our youth programs over the years to reach at-risk children – more than 20,000 in 2011, but we need to do more, and we need your help.
By joining the team, not only will you raise awareness and funds for GO! St. Louis Team for Kids, you will receive a variety of exclusive event incentives:
- Complimentary entry into Marathon or Half Marathon
- GO! St. Louis official training program led by Big River Running Company
- Technical training shirt
- Special GO! St. Louis Team for Kids Race day shirt

St. Louis Read, Right & Run Marathon® (RRRM) and Students on the GO! (SOTG).
The GO! St. Louis Read, Right & Run Marathon program encourages children in grades K- 8 to be reading proficient, physically fit and community minded by challenging them to READ 26 books, RIGHT the community with 26 good deeds, and RUN 26.2 miles over a six month period. It is a standards-based, sustainable, enrichment program that endorses and supports existing school curriculum. In 2012, more than 22,000 students from 250 schools are participating.
Students on the GO!, a program for high school students, targets at risk kids in St. Louis and provides them with an opportunity to focus on accomplishing a challenging goal of running the April GO! St. Louis Half Marathon. The program engages them to experience the benefits of goal setting, discipline, teamwork, improved health and a feeling of accomplishment in a positive environment. In 2012, approximately 150 – 175 students from eight schools will cross the Finish Line!
