So many of you know my story....In 2008 I came to Forest Park to watch Katie in the Read Right and Run marathon. My brother was running the 5k as well. I could barely walk from where we parked to watch them. My brother inspired me. In July 2009 at 342 pounds I began to get control of my eating and lose weight. In Dec. 2009 knowing fitness had to be part of this journey, I asked my brother to help me learn to run. I trained, with his constant encouragement, beginning by running just 60 seconds at a time. In April 2010 I ran every step of my first 5k at the Go St Louis weekend. Its a wonder a finished because everything made me cry. The starting line, being among so many runners, when the volunteers held water out to ME...fat girl Kathy....
I thought at the time that the race was a finish line, but really it was a starting line for me. I have continued to train and eat healthfully. It is a constant daily struggle to make wise choices and not give up when the going gets tough. Running teaches me that. In 2011 I ran not only the 5k, but ran some of and completed my first half marathon. What I learned from that weekend is that you can't always be in control of influences on your running and even though I walked more than I wanted, that day was still an incredible accomplishment. I am tougher and believe in myself more than I ever have. To date, I have lost 120 pounds, logged countless miles and It is my goal to run every step of the April 2012 half marathon.
I'm running for Go! St. Louis Team for Kids because I have lived the power of fitness changing your life. My girls and I run together. I have witnessed transformations in my own Katie and other girls as they work toward running goals in Girls on the Run. My girls think of me as a fit person and understand that fitness is part of our life. Who would have ever thought that three years ago? I have changed our future and the Team for Kids can change other kids' futures.
My goal is $500. This is a scary number to me, and I appreciate EVERY contribution no matter how big or small. Thank you for visiting my page and for any contribution you make.

GO! St. Louis Team for Kids is the official charity team for GO! St. Louis. This exciting new team will help you train for a race at the 2012 GO! St. Louis Marathon & Family Fitness Weekend®, while raising funds to help us in our mission to fight the raising rate of youth obesity.
We created this new team out of an increased interest in expanding our local youth fitness initiatives at a time of crisis for many young children, who continue to fight a lack of physical exercise and ultimately an obesity problem than can lead to a lifetime of health issues. We have expanded our youth programs over the years to reach at-risk children – more than 20,000 in 2011, but we need to do more, and we need your help.
