BENEFITING: Girls on the Run - Chicago
ORGANIZER: Girls on the Run - Chicago
EVENT: 2017 GOTR Chicago Marathon
EVENT DATE: Oct 08, 2017
In 2017 I will take on the Chicago Marathon as a charity runner for Girls on the Run. This is an afterschool program for girls ages 8-14 that uses the power of running to inspire girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. The program combines training for a non-competitive 5k running event with interactive lessons that encourage positive social-emotional and physical development among participants. More than 85% of girls taking part in the program receive some sort of financial assistance to participate.
I have always said that running has saved my life and it is no exaggeration. Starting at age 12, I battled self harm and suicidal thoughts and tendencies. At age 25 I discovered running. Not only did it help me to see myself as strong, beautiful and worthy but it acted as a natural antidepressant, and I am now living my life medication free. I hope that by raising money for Girls on the Run I will help just one girl discover these things about herself at a much earlier age than I did. Every girl should feel strong, beautiful and worthy. Running will help them find that within themselves.
Please consider making a donation to help me complete my last World Marathon Major in the United States before I move on to London, Tokyo and Berlin. I appreciate your consideration to this endeavor as well as to all your past support!
