My Story - Why Girl's on the Run?
I am excited to be running the 2017 Chicago Marathon for Girl's on the Run (GOTR)! This organization helps young girls build confidence and learn a healthy lifestyle through running. I have volunteered at two GOTR 5k's, and have personally witnessed the excitment and sense of achievement these young girls feel after crossing the finish line for the first time. Through these events I got to know the spirit and energy of the organization, and witness the same spark in these young girls that running gave to me.
In June of 2015 I took a run your first 5k class. A supportive teacher eased me into running that summer, and it is where I gained my running wings. I found a love and passion for the sport. It has helped me maintain a healthy and active lifestyle while working in an office building, it has helped me reduce stress in challenging times, and it has given me a grand sense of achievement. Since that class I have run a countless number of 5k's, 2 10k's, 2 half marathon's, and 1 marathon!! I have crushed my goals, and continue to set higher ones. Running is limitles.
This is why I am inspired to raise $1,000 for GOTR in 2017. I want to help ignite the spark in young girls. I want to help them find the same passion I did in running. I want them to feel the support of their family, friends, and community cheering them on at the finish line. I want them to feel like they are do-er's and not observers. I want them to receive that medal at the end of race, and feel proud because they put in a lot of hardwork. I want them to feel fearless, empowered and limitless... and running can provide this to young girls.
So I am asking for your help in achieving this goal. Please consider giving a donation to this organization. It cost $157 for one girl to complete the program. Raising $1,000 will put 9+ girls through this progam. Every donation helps!

Girls on the Run is an afterschool program for girls ages 8-14 that uses the power of running to inspire girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. The program combines training for a non-competitive 5k running event with interactive lessons that encourage positive social-emotional and physical development among participants. More than 85% of girls taking part in the program receive some sort of financial assistance to participate. All funds raised by the Girls on the Run SoleMates Team go to underwrite program scholarships so that any girl can participate in this life-changing programing, regardless of her family's ability to pay the program fee.
