BENEFITING: Girls on the Run - Chicago
ORGANIZER: Girls on the Run - Chicago
EVENT: 2017 GOTR Chicago Marathon
EVENT DATE: Oct 08, 2017
It has been almost four years since I ran the Chicago Marathon and raised money for Girls on the Run. Many friends and family supported me then and I am so grateful. I have decided to try it again, four years later and with even more PASSION & COMMITMENT to help raise money for GOTR of Greater Milwaukee to spread this program to more and more girls in need. Many of you know that I started as Executive Director for the program in 2011 and at that time we had 200 girls in the program. Today we will serve over 1200 girls and have 60 GOTR sites and 85 teams throughout Greater Milwaukee. This program is for all girls, but we strive to provide it to those girls who need it most. The program offers scholarships to those sites and girls that cannot pay the full cost. Here in Milwaukee we have over 50% of our girls on scholarship and a $250,000 funding gap. We work really hard to provide this life-changing program to these young girls who are at such an impressionable age. Through our 10 week program girls learn about themselves, their team and their community. They learn about healthy eating, active lifestyle, loving themselves and much more. Each team participates in a community service project to show how they can make a difference in their own community. At the end of the program our girls will run, walk or skip across the finish line of our celebratory 5k event. Through our 10 week research based program, girls,
-Develop confidence and strength of character
-Create positive connections with peers and adults
-Make a meaningful contribution to their community through service projects
-And ultimately, the girls' transformation inspires entire families to get involved as well.
I've personally coached the program and both of my girls have been GOTR Participants and of course my son wishes there was a Boys on the Run!
I am trying to raise $1000 for our Milwaukee council which will allow five more girls to experience this life-changing program. Girls on the Run of Chicago is allowing GOTR of Greater Milwaukee to participate in their SoleMates program and will give 80% of the funds I raise back to GOTR of Greater Milwaukee.
Please help me make that difference in a young girls' life.

Girls on the Run is an afterschool program for girls ages 9-13 that uses the power of running to inspire girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. The program combines training for a non-competitive 5k running event with interactive lessons that encourage positive social-emotional and physical development among participants. More than 50% of girls taking part in the program receive some sort of financial assistance to participate. All funds raised by the Girls on the Run SoleMates Team go to underwrite program scholarships so that any girl can participate in this life-changing programing, regardless of her family's ability to pay the program fee.
