BENEFITING: Girls on the Run - Chicago
ORGANIZER: Girls on the Run - Chicago
EVENT: GOTR Chicago Marathon 2016
EVENT DATE: Oct 09, 2016
I'm so excited to be running the 2016 Chicago Marathon for Girls on the Run this year! I was torn between this charity and the Alz Stars for the Alzheimer's Association, in which I am both personally impacted by and professionally support.
However, I opted to choose GOTR for my daughter Teagan. She is currently participating in the program at Saratoga Elementary this year. In the short time she has been a part of the team, she has accomplished so much. Her endurance has improved, she's more aware of making healthy choices and she has been empowered to face each day with confidence.
As mentioned, I struggled between joining the Alz Stars team and Girls on the Run. I am very passionate about what the Alzheimer's Association does and support their cause throughout the year as I am personally and professionally impacted by Alzheimer's and Dementia. I spoke with my family about it and Teagan encouraged me to choose GOTR. I thought about the type of person she is- kind, funny, shy, caring, smart. I want her to be confident in who she is and have committed to making sure she is a part of this program.
Everyday I work with an amazing Administrative Team in my office, selfless caregivers taking care of our senior clients and I meet with families struggling to juggle to care for an older love one, being their for children / grandchildren while often times still maintaining a career. When I think of all of these people and my own responsibilities, I can't help but think that my goal is to raise strong healthy and confident kids. Kids that that will become kind hearted, hard working adults who are compassionate enough to share their caring tendencies. To be successful in my goal, I must accomodate their schedules and make sacrifices within my own schedule so that my kids can be involved in programs to make that happen.
All in all, I ultimately chose GOTR because I want to salute and support all of the families and coaches who are committed to teaching girls to be empowered and become confident, caring, successful young ladies. They will get through some of the most challenging years in their near future with ease thanks to the principles of this program.
Thanks for your support!
