BENEFITING: Girls on the Run - Chicago
ORGANIZER: Girls on the Run - Chicago
EVENT: GOTR Chicago Marathon 2016
EVENT DATE: Oct 09, 2016
My name is Myra. I'm running the 2016 Chicago Marathon, and in the process I will be working with Girls on the Run to empower and strengthen the girls of this world. Girls on the Run envisions a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams — what could possibly be more important for girls to learn, right? I've personally worked extremely hard to not let anything life throws at me steal any of my determination, optimism, joy, and gratitude.
When I began running in high school, it gave me confidence. As a teenager, setting goals with running helped me become determined to make more of myself in all aspects of my life outside of running. I was lucky to be on a cross country team with such supportive girls my age who loved running together and supporting each other. Running at a young age truly set me up for success. I don't think there is any way I would be running in my 20s if I didn't begin in high school. Since high school graduation I've completed 5 — soon to be 6 — half marathons and the 2014 New York City Marathon.
As women, it is always the right time to embrace who we are, dream big, and change the world. Together, we can start right here, right now by supporting this cause on my behalf as I train to tackle the 2016 Chicago Marathon.
