EVENT: GOTR Chicago Marathon 2016
EVENT DATE: Oct 09, 2016
I am very excited to be running the 2016 Chicago Marathon for Girls on the Run! This will be my 4th marathon and my 2nd time running the Chicago Marathon. I teach Spanish and volunteer as a coach for Girls on the Run at my school. Running has had a positive impact in my life, and I love sharing my passion with my students.
Girls on the Run is a nonprofit, life-changing, after-school program for girls in 3rd-8th grade. Through my experiences as a coach I have seen how Girls on the Run transforms the way girls see themselves and their opportunities. The goal of the program is to unleash confidence through accomplishment, while establishing a lifetime appreciation of health and fitness. Girls on the Run teaches every girl that she can embrace who she is, define who she wants to be, and rise to any challenge.
As a coach at my school, I meet with my girls as a team twice per week for 12 weeks as they complete activities that creatively integrate running, setting goals, and training for a non-competitive 5k running event. Throughout the curriculum students participate in interactive lessons that encourage positive social-emotional and physical development.
This year over 11,000 girls in the Chicago area will participate in Girls on the Run, and approximately 85% of those girls will request and receive financial aid. All of the donations that I collect will go towards funding program scholarships, ensuring that every girl can participate regardless of her family's financial situation. Every donation makes a huge difference!
Let’s work together to help girls from the Chicago area cross the finish line this year!
