Girls on the Run believes that every girl can embrace who she is, can define who she wants to be, can rise to any challenge, can change the world. It is my goal to help make that belief into a reality for young women every season.
As a first time coach last spring, I helped lead 25 young girls through ten weeks of training that empowered and encouraged them. My experience at Atwood Elementary made me fall even more in love with this life changing program. When I say life changing, I mean both for the girls I worked with every week and for myself. The drive and determination of my team motivated me to want to do more for them and girls like them, which is why I have decided to fundraise in support of Girls on the Run this fall.
Girls on the Run® is a life-changing, experiential learning program for girls age eight to thirteen years old offered at local schools and YMCAs across metro Detroit. The program combines training for a 5k, 3.1 mile running event with self-esteem enhancing, uplifting workouts. The goals of the program are to encourage positive emotional, social, mental, and physical development.
The total cost for the 10 week program is $130 per girl. But not every girl's family can afford that, and many schools we'd like to run the program in can't even offer it at that cost. With your help, the Y will be able to scholarship 200 girls this fall and next spring, and we won't have to turn any girls away for their inability to pay. Will you help us empower 200 young ladies in Metro Detroit?
