Hi! Thanks for visiting my fundraising page! Most of you know I'm an avid runner and I'm also a Girls on the Run Coach for Thomas Jefferson Elementary. Girls on the Run is an AMAZING program that teaches girls in grades 3 - 8 about healthy lifestyles, good choices and self-esteem; all while training them to run!
In addition to being a GOTR Coach I have joined the GOTR NOVA Ragnar Relay team to help fundraise for GOTR NOVA!
What is the Ragnar Relay you may ask?! The Ragnar Relay is an overnight running relay race that covers 200 miles between Cumberland, MD to Washington DC on September 21st - 22nd.
You must be thinking what would motivate me to sign up for something as extreme as this! Well .. all the funds that me and my teammates raise will go to GOTR NOVA and help spread their programming to more schools in Northern Virginia. By making a tax deductible donation, you are supporting GOTR NOVA's goals of reaching more girls each season and building a healthier Northern Virginia :-)
Please consider taking a minute to make a tax deductable donation toward this inspirational program. Any amount is greatly appreciated and will make a difference in helping more girls become a girl on the run.
If you do not want to complete you donation electronically you may send a check to GOTR NOVA and in the memo section write "Ragnar Relay - Whitney Strand" and mail to: GOTR NOVA, 10560 Main St, Suite 514, Fairfax, VA 22030.
Thank you for your contribution & support! I will be thinking of all of you while I run!
Message from GIRLS ON THE RUN OF NOVA -
Girls on the Run of Northern VA (GOTR NOVA) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization with the mission of inspiring 3rd-8th grade girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. Our unique after-school program combines lessons related to self-esteem and healthy living with training to run a 5K race. In the past 11 years, thousands of local volunteers have helped to empower nearly 30,000 young girls with the confidence and character they need to become healthy, strong women. Today, GOTR NOVA serves more than 6,700 girls annually at more than 175 sites in eight Northern VA counties and independent cities.
GOTR NOVA is a charity partner of this September's Ragnar Relay, a 12-person running relay that covers 200 miles from Cumberland, MD to Washington, DC. The 12 members of the GOTR NOVA team are truly "running for the girls" and have agreed to raise significant funds to help spread GOTR's programming to more schools in Northern VA. By making a donation, you are supporting GOTR NOVA's goals of reaching more girls each season and building a healthier Northern VA. Our program works: recent research has shown, with statistical significance, that girls who participate in Girls on the Run exit the program with an increase in exercise behavior, a higher self-esteem, more satisfied with their body size, and feeling greater support of physical activity habits from their family, teachers, and peers. Your gift will make a difference!

Want to be a part of the experience but not run? GOTR NOVA will also receive a donation from Ragnar for providing volunteers! Volunteers will receive GOTR swag and be entered into a drawing to receive a refurbished Garmin watch. Email firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in volunteering for the Ragnar Relay on September 21-22!
