Girls on the Run of Southern Tampa Bay
“We envision a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams”
Girls on the Run is a positive youth development program for elementary and middle school girls that focuses on social, emotional, and physical development. Girls on the Run incorporates gender specific life skills lessons with training for a 5k run in a fun, interactive way.
The 12-week program focuses on building girls’ self-esteem and encouraging positive physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional well-being. During the program, the girls run and play active games, talk about important issue, such as dealing with body image and the media, resisting peer-pressure, making healthy decisions, and contributing to the community. The 24 lesson curriculum empowers girls with a greater sense of self-awareness, a sense of achievement and a foundation in team building as well as a commitment to enhancing their communities, all of which helps them become, strong, satisfied and self-confident women. Along the way, the girls train to walk or run in a non-competitive 5K (3.1 mile) community race event, which is the culmination of the season. Completing the 5K gives the girls a chance to shine and an overwhelming sense of accomplishment.
