Govt school loans for single mom
Organized by: Jessica Johnson
I am 40yrs old and a single mom of 3. I had a career as a police officer for 7yrs in the big city of Cincinnati. I eventually quit and moved to the country in a small town in Florida to remove myself and my children from the violence I saw. I started working in for less than half of what I made because I didn't want to go back to law enforcement. So after several deadend jobs at 10.00/hr my last boss asked me what I wanted to do, crying I said I wanted to go back to school. His response was " that probably isn't likely having 3 kids." So that lit a fire in me. Not only did I go back to school, I earned an AA degree while waiting to get into a Radiology program which I also earned an AS degree with HONORS in both. I am currently working in my field however it is PT. What isn't right is that the college makes you believe 98% of graduates will find a job in their field. They only want to make money. I did find a job but only PT available and night shifts are hard so work with the 2 little ones at home. So the stress of $30000.00 worth of school loans hanging over my head, drowns out the pride I have in proving I could go to college and earn a degree even with 3 kids. I try to be a good role model for my kids and they are all 3 in honor roll themselves but hate for them to see me struggle to make ends meet. And you may ask why don't my parents help? Well My mom raised us 3 kids alone also. My dad wasn't in our lives because he served in the Vietnam war and couldn't function in the civilian world when he came back due to PTSD. He died at 46 years old from depression and alcoholism. I was 18, and barely knew him. So I am asking today if you can help I appreciate it and thank you for taking time to read my story. God Bless and never let anyone kill your dreams even if you are a single parent.
