BENEFITING: MICHAEL J FOX FOUNDATION FOR PARKINSONS RESEARCH
EVENT DATE: Jul 14, 2013
After two bicycle accidents, weeks of swim coaching, and several pairs of running shoes, I've decided to swim/bike/run the NYC Triathlon this July for the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research. But I need your help reach my goal to cross the finish line.
Why the Michael J. Fox Foundation?: Several years ago, my grandmother passed away from complications related to her long struggle with Parkinson's Disease. I will be running in her memory, and raising money to help fund research against this debilitating and devastating disease.
Why the NYC Triathlon?: I've never done one, and what better time than the present? Plus, some sources suggest parts of the Hudson are potable during the summer months, so why see for myself?
Donate or no, I would love to have any of you come to see a part (or all) of the race! The race progresses as follows:
Swim (1500k): Start on the westside at 99th Street and the Hudson River and swim along the seawall to 79th Street Boat Basin.
Bike (40k): Transition at the northbound entrance of the Henry Hudson Highway up to Gunhill Road in the Bronx, U-turn, and back down to Henry Hudson Parkway at 79th.
Run (10k): Transition from Riverside Park at 72nd Street and run into Central Park, run in a clockwise direction around the northern loop of Central Park.
The Finish line is on Dead Road, just west of the band shell on the 72nd Street Transverse in Central Park.
