HOW DOES THE BROADWAY BEE WORK?
The Broadway Bee is a hilarious adult spelling bee between the Broadway community, (where cheating is encouraged and drinking is allowed), hosted by Rebecca Feldman and Jay Reiss, the original creators of “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.”
All proceeds go to benefit Broadway Bound Kids, a NYC arts education organization. Our mission to inspire and empower young lives through the performing arts.
10 different Broadway performers will be spelling in an exciting competition for the coveted Broadway Bee trophy.
Each speller will have a support team of 10 people. Anyone can join a team: broadway cast members, friends, family, fans, and Broadway Bound Kids supporters. Once team members reach their fundraising goal of $400, they get a FREE ticket to the Broadway Bee. It’s like a pledge-a-thon! But, instead of jogging or biking, we’re spelling.
Cheats are like “lifelines” - spellers will purchase cheats with the funds raised by their teams. Cheats include opportunities to ask the audience, look in the dictionary, or perform a challenge that the judges choose. Ultimately - all of the funds will go to support Broadway Bound Kids.
