The people who survived the sword found grace in the wilderness. Jeremiah 31:2
Mental illness is estimated to effect one in four families. My family is one of those. Last summer, my son had a life-changing experience at Rites of Passage, a therapeutic wilderness program near Seattle. After a courageous battle against depression and anxiety, he is now finding success in college and in life because of the skills he learned at ROP. Wilderness therapy is effective but costly, especially when it's done well. Rites of Passage tries to make its program more affordable through its scholarship fund --the Bonnie Alaska Welch Children's Foundation. I will be hiking the Georgia section of the Appalachian Trail in June (84 miles) as a fundraiser for these amazing folks! It feels critical to me that other adolescents and young adults have access to the same success my son has found. I hope you will feel led to donate, to share this via social media, to cover us in prayer, and maybe even to join me for a hike!
There's even a prize for the largest donation -- an overnight stay at the Hike Inn near the Southern Terminus of the Appalachian Trail. http://hike-inn.com/
