Graduate School Brown
Organized by: Mateus Baptista
I have been accepted to Brown's Masters in Urban Education Policy and have been granted $39,000 in financial aid but need 10k more to be able to enroll in the program.
Due to my immigration status, I cannot take out federal student loans and have no cosigner for a private loan. I have been given substantial aid and with a few scholarships will be able to fund nearly 50k. I will be living with a professor for the year so I can save money on living expenses. However, if I cannot raise the remaining $10,000 before June, I will not be able to get my Masters degree.
A little about me:
I was born in Brazil and migrated to the US at the age of 8. My mom is a house cleaner and has minimal capacity to provide financial support. I have been extremely lucky to have received a full ride to Brown and finished my undergraduate degree this past May. I graduated at the top 20 percent of my class receiving Brown's only latin honors of Magna Cum Laude. The Masters will allow me to work on issues of education with a focus on communities like the one I came from. Our current education system is failing millions of young children, hopefully, I will contribute to the solution.
With your help, I will be able to continue my education and become more qualified to deal with the challenges that these communities face. Education has been instrumental in my life, and I hope that I can use my knowledge and experience to help others.
Your contribution, whatever it may be, will help me get closer to fulfilling my dreams and working on education policy.
