At Hyatt, we are in the business of caring for people so they can be their best. Our purpose defines our practices: We work to create an environment for people to thrive by building strong communities and fostering sustainable environmental practices.
Hyatt Thrive is built on the understanding that through actions large and small we can have a big impact on the lives of the people and the communities we touch. This impact is amplified by the engagement of our colleagues, who are passionate about contributing to the communities they call home. And when our people, communities and planet thrive, so does our business.
With that said, we wanted to participate in Operation Backpack which is a back-to-school drive that collects and distributes new backpacks full of grade-specific supplies to the thousands of homeless children living in New York City. A new, full backpack is thrilling for the children to receive and can make the difference between the children being excited to go to school and not wanting to go at all.
Last year Operation Backpack gave 19,400 children backpacks, and anticipate requests for about 20,000 this year since there are nearly 23,000 children who call a shelter “home” and most are school-age. Plus children are starting school earlier now that more Universal Pre-K seats are available.
Operation Backpack® puts the backpacks in the children’s hands before they go to school so that on day one they look and feel more like their classmate and less like a “shelter kid” If we were to give the backpacks to teachers to give to children arriving at school without any supplies, not only would the teacher know this was a child in need, but so would the child’s classmates.
Our goal is to make an impact by providing them will a full, good quality backpack in time for their first day of school. Please help raise awareness and funds for those children who are in need within our local community. Let's strive to make a difference in a child's life today!
