BENEFITING: RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE CHARITIES
Home is important. When tragedy strikes and a family has to face an unthinkable challenge like finding medical care for a sick child, Ronald McDonald House Charities are there to help. That's why Brian and Garrison decided to raise funds for this amazing organization by taking on a different unthinkable challenge: Racing the GoreTex Grand Traverse, a 40-mile, self support backcountry ski race from Crested Butte to Aspen, Colorado. If they raise their goal of $5,000, they'll be entered into this uniquely challenging event and will help in supporting the family oriented work of Ronald McDonald House Charities.
At the age of 8, and again at 13, Garrison was diagnosed with Leukemia and required a combined six years of treatment. Because his family lived four hours away from the Children's Hospital in Denver, CO, traveling for medical care and procedures was a significant burden. The Ronald McDonald House eased that burden tremendously, providing their family, and thousands like them, a comfortable place to stay right across the street from the hospital: a home away from home during the most challenging time in their lives. Now, Garrison is determined to return the favor Ronald McDonald House Charities gave to him and his family by raising $5,000 so other families in difficult situations can get the care they need.
Brian is a Doctor of Physical therapy student, currently working full-time in a hospital. He has seen first-hand the hardship that medical care places on families. All parents envision their sons and daughters with playful, active, happy childhoods, but far too many families are forced into the alternate reality of life-threatening disease and debilitating, expensive treatment. The Ronald McDonald House Charities provide refuge and resources to families who need it most. As a close friend to teammate Garrison Garcia, the mission of the RMHC strikes even closer to home. Brian is inspired to race to raise money and awareness with the hope that of lightening the burden of those in need.
