Grand Parents Rights
Organized by: Jim Gonser
Our only child died in a car accident in 2010 leaving daughters ages 7 & 8. Their mother started dating a man 2 weeks after his death and wanted to hide it from us. She did not want us to spend time with the girls and also limited phone contact with them. Our son had spent every summer with his Grand Parents since we lived in different towns. We kept in touch by phone & visited most holidays. When our son moved away he had told us how special that bond had been in his life! We were told when he moved out of state that he wanted his children to have that same connection with us. We enjoyed having the girls for part of their summer for the two years prior to his death. We had a special bond with the girl in that we were able to babysit them 5 days a week for over 5 years. We purchase.a fixer up home from our retirement funds in their town. We worked on the home for a month each summer and had the girls daily while the parents worked.
When the mother terminated our rights to have contact with our Grand Daughters we ended up in court. The only way we could pay for this was to sell our home in Indiana & our home where we live in Montana.
This fund is to assist other Grand Parents discover their Rights and help finance their legal fees.
