Every year teams of firefighters from across Illinois and Boston compete head-to-head in a series of challenges all in the name of pediatric cancer and local children and families affected by this horrible illness. Firefighters sign up in teams of six and each team is assigned a pediatric cancer patient as their honorary coach. Challenges include tug-of-war, inflatable jousting, fire truck pull, obstacle course, wing eating contests and more.
The events also feature fun activities for the whole family. Past activities include face painting, magicians, clowns, music, cornhole, inflatable slides & bouncy house, arts & crafts, raffles, split the pot and more.
Fire up a cure is a means to generate funds specifically to allow children to participate in fire cadet schools and cadet programs; providing another opportunity for children fighting cancer and survivors to participate in physical and social activities.
