BENEFITING: DR GARY BURNSTEIN COMMUNITY HEALTH CLINIC
EVENT DATE: Feb 11, 2017
My grandfather, Dr. Gary Burnstein, retired from cardiology in 1997 and began providing free healthcare to patients at a homeless shelter in Pontiac. His vision was to expand the free services offered and treat anyone in need. My grandfather passed away in 2003 before his vision became a reality. Fortunately, family, friends and community members honored his dream and established the Dr. Gary Burnstein Community Health Clinic. The Clinic provides free medical and dental care to the low income uninsured and homeless. Last year, volunteer doctors and dentists treated over 1000 patients and filled over $1.2 million in prescriptions.
For my Mitzvah Project, I volunteered at the Clinic and saw its impact on patients as well as volunteers. I am proud of the work my family does to ensure the Clinic’s success and I want to personally make a meaningful contribution to my grandfather’s legacy. Therefore, for my Bar Mitzvah, I am asking you to please make a donation to the Clinic instead of buying me a gift. All money raised will be deposited into the Grant Burnstein Pharmacy Fund and will be used to purchase costly medication that will save lives.
Thank you so much,
