Grant's Cartago Corazon -
Organized by: Lisa Woods
I'm Grant. In December of 2014 I will be traveling 2,222 miles to the Costa Rican city of Cartago. For two weeks I will have the privilege of living and serving in this community. My volunteering will include working with those with disabilities, orphaned infants and children, individuals affected by HIV, and caring for a portion of Cartago's elderly population. CCS has focused their efforts on these populations within the community because during a time of cultural and economic transition in Costa Rica these are the groups most at risk, and the ones who can fall through the cracks of progress and change. My goal is to enter this community with respect, and while I serve, always to be aware of the inherent dignity of this rich culture. I hope to bring back the lessons and gifts of compassion that I find while I volunteer and share them with my community. I would truly appreciate any amount you could contribute to this effort. I've always been a firm believer in the power of the individual. But that power can be better realized when it has support from a loving community. That's why I call my journey, Cartago Corazon, because I want to share my heart.
