The Grassroot Soccer Amica Insurance Seattle Marathon Team is focused on empowering 2,500 young Zimbabweans with the knowledge and life skills to live healthy lives, and transform their communities. Zimbabwe is where Grassroot Soccer first took root - it's where all four founders played professional soccer and saw first hand the destructive effects of HIV and AIDS on local communities. Today, GRS Zimbabwe coaches and participants are a vibrant example of young people taking charge for a healthier future.
The GRS Zimbabwe program is one of the flagship sites, including the FIFA Football for Hope Centre in Bulawayo, a community hub where young people receive health education and access to services. At the Centre and throughout communities in Zimbabwe, professional soccer players and role models - GRS Caring Coaches - are providing critical support and mentorship to tens of thousands of youth each year. With your help, GRS can reach 2,500 more in the coming year!
I've seen the way that soccer can be a universal language and transcend cultural and socio-economic boundaries firsthand. I love that GRS has utilized this as a tool to combat an incredibly sensitive and widespread issue.
