On November 29th brothers Doug and David and sister-in-law Christie and I will be running in the Seattle Marathon to raise funds for Grassroot Soccer (GRS). Many of you were incredibly generous last year in support of my first marathon in NYC where we collectively raised an astounding $27,000 to support young girls in GRS programs across Africa. This year, the GRS Seattle Marathon Team is focused on empowering 2,500 young Zimbabweans and every $25 we raise helps one more live a healthier life, access critical health services, combat gender-based violence, stop the spread of HIV in their communities, and gain self esteem through playing soccer.
Niggling injuries, and life in general, have made the full 26.2 miles a stretch for each of us Adams this year so we've banded together to run a whopping 56.4 miles -- two Seattle marathons -- or a half-marathon each :)
My family and I have a personal goal of raising $10,000 to support 400 young people. Help us hit our target with this bold and fresh approach that focuses on impact and results in combatting what remains one of the world's most tragic epidemics.
It's super easy to give, just click on the "Donate" button. Donations can also be made offline by mailing a personal check payable to Grassroot Soccer, PO Box 712, Norwich, VT 05055 – and we’ll add your donation to my online page. Giving shares of stock to avoid capital gains taxes is the biggest win-win for all - GRS is set up to accept donations like this.
I can say from the personal experience of my family's time in Africa that what GRS is doing is not only working, it has the power of literally inspiring countries to be innovative in the approach they are taking to relegate arguably the world’s most devastating health epidemic to history.
A heartfelt thank you for all you can do to help,
PS I hope you’ll check out our “Enough” video in the images on my Crowdrise site to get a better sense for Grassroot Soccer and our ambitious goals.
