BENEFITING: GRASSROOT SOCCER
ORGANIZER: GRASSROOT SOCCER
EVENT DATE: Nov 03, 2013
When I first moved to NYC after graduating from Ithaca College three years ago, I was thrilled with the opportunity to explore everything this city had to offer. I remember one of the first things I did upon arriving was visiting the New York Road Runner's website and signing up for the lottery to enter the NYC Marathon. Of course I was thinking, "I'm ready to do this!" but really had no idea what it entailed and ultimately discovered that the lottery all but guarantees you nothing.
Fast forward to six weeks before the 2012 marathon and that's when Team Grassroots Soccer gave me the opportunity to be a part of something special and join their organization as a participant in the marathon. After an aggressive training schedule, the effects of Hurricane Sandy unfortunately canceled the event just two days prior and heading into 2013, I'm more motivated than ever to take part in this year's historic marathon.
This is an incredible opportunity for me not only to raise money through soccer (my lifelong passion) in the fight against HIV and AIDS, but to also dedicate this experience to one of my best friends, Steve Quach, who passed away when we were in high school from Acute Myeloid Leukemia. His spirit lives on forever, and I look forward to accomplishing this lifelong goal with him by my side.
Steve is truly an inspiration to me, and it's an honor to dedicate this run to him and jointly raise money for a cause that I'm deeply vested in. I encourage you all to take a moment of your time to show your support.
Thank you all and much love!
