BENEFITING: GRASSROOT SOCCER
ORGANIZER: GRASSROOT SOCCER
EVENT DATE: Nov 03, 2013
Founded by former professional soccer players in 2002, Grassroot Soccer (GRS) trains African soccer stars, coaches, teachers, and peer educators in the world’s most HIV-affected countries to deliver an interactive HIV prevention, malaria education and life skills curriculum to youth, work that numerous studies have confirmed is effectively stemming the spread of HIV in Africa.
Since I became a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer and began my transition back into a life in the USA,one of the activities that has grounded me in this readjustment process, and for which I am becoming quite passionate, is running. With your support, I will be running the New York City Marathon and continue to contribute to Grassroot Soccer, an organization I represent and believe in.
I served as a United States Peace Corps Volunteer in the Dominican Republic from 2010 to 2013 as a Youth, Family and Community Development Volunteer. One of my main projects while serving was to work with a unique Grassroot Soccer (GRS) Partnership Program in partnership with a local NGO, the DREAM Project and Peace Corps Dominican Republic; teaching, training and managing the implementation of the Skillz HIV/AIDS prevention curriculum. Through sports and educational messages, Skillz uses a transferable effective model to reduce the rate of the spreading of HIV/AIDS on a sustainable global level. In my third year of service I had the privilege to work alongside the Deportes para la Vida National Coordinator. Upon completion of my service with Peace Corps, I then had a unique job opportunity working in Equatorial Guinea, Africa as a consultant supporting the growth and development of a GRS partner program with a local NGO, Biraelat.
I love and believe in the GRS program. I am inspired by the mission, the coaches I have met and trained and I am motivated by the youth who participate in the program. I am 110% passionate about Grassroot Soccer and the positive impact they are making on a global measure. Please donate to my fundraising efforts and KNOW that your donation is going to support an incredible cause, with a tremendous group of authentic, energetic and dynamic youth working to stop the spread of HIV/AIDS.
Please consider spreading the word to your friends and family to provide them with the opportunity to donate to this sustainable cause. Thank you for your support as you assist me in helping others as I continue jump, freefall and run back into my life in the US of A.
