FOUR WEEKS LEFT!
October 09, 2017
This will by my first marathon fundraiser and I couldn't be more excited to be on the Grassroot Soccer Team. I have never considered myself a runner, but when the challenge presented itself for a good cause, I knew I had to say yes. My Uncle Mal was an avid marathon runner; he ran over 11 marathons in his lifetime. We lost him to cancer and with every doubt and fear, I remind myself that he will be with me on this race. Grassroot Soccer is a very special nonprofit to me because it uses sports as a catalyst for change. In a time where we are so focused on differences, sports has the unique power to connect us all.
Grassroot Soccer (GRS) is an adolescent health organization that uses the power of soccer to educate, inspire, and mobilize young people to lead healthier lives and be agents of change in their communities. More than 3,000 adolescents die every day, totaling 1.2 million deaths a year, from largely preventable causes, according to a new report from WHO and partners. Since 2002, GRS has reached over 1.9 million young people with critical health information & life skills programs. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation deemed GRS a “culturally appropriate, internationally suitable, creative, effective way to educate at-risk youth about HIV/AIDS and its prevention.” GRS is supported by USAID, Rotary International, Comic Relief, The Arsenal Foundation, and the Peace Corps. It is truly a sustainable, awesome organization.
It only costs $25 to support one young person through GRS's core program and provide them with access to an HIV test. To donate, click the button on the upper right. All donations are tax-deductible and any donation, small or large, would be appreciated.
With gratitude, Claire
