Soccer has made me who I am today. Through my entire life, the beautiful game has not only kept me in physical "shape," it more importantly shaped my attitude and personality. Growing up though the sport has instilled in me invaluable lessons of persistence, teamwork, and sportsmanship (including how to lose graciously for 2 years in a row). Anything remotely good that I have done to this point in my life can be traced back to something the sport taught me.
Being that soccer is what left me with the competitive drive that led me to check the NYC Marathon off my bucket list, and how well I know the impact the game can have on a life, I am very excited to run in support of Grassroot Soccer.
Grassroot Soccer is a preeminent health organization that leverages the power of soccer to educate, inspire, and mobilize youth in developing countries to overcome their greatest health challenges, live healthier, more productive lives, and be agents for change in their communities. GRS has reached over 1.9 million young people in nearly 50 countries with adolescent-friendly education about health challenges such as HIV/AIDS, sexual health, gender-based violence, and malaria.
On top of providing much-needed motivation for me while I train for my first ever marathon, your contribution bolsters an amazing cause. If you played any sport growing up, you will likely understand how impactful a "game" can be on your life. While it is often easy to keep your blinders on to some of the scarier and sadder aspects of the world, I challenge you to think about at-risk youth who have limited access to the resources and mentors necessary to lead a healthy, prosperous life. Each and every dollar of yours will help improve a life.
